Monster Blood Tattoo: Foundling & Lamplighter by D.M. Cornish
Foundling & Lamplighter are two books of a series. The first book, Foundling, was terribly hard to get into. It’s very much like Lord of the Rings, in the sense that it is a new world and new terms. Each chapter has a new definition of a word, and there is a glossary full of all the terms, maps, and even it’s own form of measurements. After I finished the first book I had a pretty good understanding of the storyline and the terms they used. The second book, Lamplighter, is considerably larger than the first book. It’s a bit more interesting because alot more happens. However, I think alot of the length of the book could have been cut back. It’s one of those books where they spend 3 pages just describing one aspect of a small piece of the big picture! So there were the positives, it was interesting and different, and the negatives, it yammered on a bit too much. The whole story is based on a young orphan who goes to work as a lamplighter, there are many adventures and fun and different characters and monsters!
I was upset when I finished Lamplighter when I wanted to find out what happens next…. AND THE THIRD BOOK ISN’T EVEN OUT YET. Humph…. I guess I’ll have to wait. If this sounds like your kind of book, I definitely recommend it as a good read.
