As sequels go, it’s always difficult to tell whether it is going to do well or bomb.  Normally they are never as good as the first in the series so they have to work extra hard, however then you risk becoming too much.  Despicable Me 2 brings back our favourite elements from the first movie: Gru, Margo, Edith, Agnes, and of course the minions.  Although the characters add their own elements to the film, I don’t think there would have been a second movie or it would have been as entertaining without the creation of the minions.  Whoever came up with the idea is really cashing in big now.  Multiple films, action figures and toys, and it will only get bigger with the upcoming release of the Minion movie expected in 2015.  They will need to create entertaining characters to hold the film together though, because on the other end of things, I don’t think the movie will be as good if it was strictly minions.

Gru is no longer in the Villain business and is approached by the Anti-Villain League (AVL) to help save the world.  With the help of Lucy from the AVL, Gru tries to catch the mysterious villain who has created a mutagen that transforms organisms into indestructible, aggressive, killing machines.

Although there were certain scenes and characters that were strange, stranger than some of the other things that have occurred in these movies, they seem to blend in and are easily overlooked.  Despicable Me 2 has some great laughs and is a good way of escaping and killing some time.  If you have seen the first film, then Despicable Me 2 is a must see.  For those who have not seen either of the films, they are worth a watch for some good laughs on the couch.
