Movies TO See: January 2016 Edition

Movies TO See.  A compiled list to help you weed out the good vs the bad to save your time, money and brain cells. A link to the preview has been provided in the title.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride (Jan 5)

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman from the hit tv series comes to the big screen.  Fans of the show rejoice.

The Forest (Jan 8)

Horror movies aren’t really my thing, but Jamie loves them so if I’m going to watch them I might as well pick them.  I’d give this one a shot, even in theatres, but with all horror movies you can’t expect cinematic greatness.

Lamb (Jan 8) Limited Release

Interesting concept, based on a novel.  The story is about a man whose life is falling apart, and he sees a girl who is on a troubled path.  He decides to run away with her to explore the beauty of the world and save her from her bleak future.  The concept is interesting because the description is harmless and uplifting, but people will never see it for anything more than an old perv who kidnaps a young girl.  He should have left her to become a crack whore and die like the rest of the good people.

The Fifth Wave (Jan 15)

Loved the books so far and I’m looking forward to the movie.  I think it’s slated to be the next big thing like “Hunger Games” but I don’t think it will live up to the same potential and may not even make it to a second film unless they push for it.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (Jan 15)

Action and war based on true events.  Not interested.  Let’s be honest the only reason you are watching this movie is so you can secretly see John Krasinski’s beefy make over.

The Boy (Jan 22)

A horror movie with a doll.  Dolls are creepy to begin with and the concept looks pretty laughable.  I expect to laugh during this one but is it strange that I still want to see it?

Monster Hunt (Jan 22)

I don’t think this will be coming to theatres here, it does not seem to have any talking in the trailer so I’m not sure which language it will be in either.  It is a martial arts mixed with fantasy of a world of monsters and men. Looks pretty cool.

Dirty Grandpa (Jan 22)

Starring Zac Efron and Robert De Niro comes a raunchy trip to spring break.  We know we aren’t expecting any great drama here, just some laughs with two of our favourite guys.

Ip Man 3 (Jan 22)

Never saw one or two, but if you are into martial arts movies, then this one is a given.

Kung Fu Panda 3 (Jan 22)

I’ve seen the first one but not the second.  Looks like a fun movie for the family, kids will love it as well as the adults.

Jane Got a Gun (Jan 29)

Starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor, a western film where Jane is caught between a violent gang.  It may be good, but again, I’m not much of a western fan. (Repeat from last month, seems to have been set back a month)

The Finest Hours (Jan 29)

Based on a true story a ship is damaged losing half the ship.  The survivors must band together to make it until help comes during the storm.  Looks pretty good, although I probably will never see it.
